How to Clean Your Aga

Cooking can be a messy business, whether you’re cooking charming cup cakes or making a spicy curry! It is therefore important to clean your oven regularly; luckily for you cleaning the Aga is as easy as pie! However there are a few things that you need to know to keep your Aga in tip top shape. So here is your guide to cleaning your Aga:

AGA

Ovens & Hotplates

In the ovens and on the hotplates, you don’t actually have to do much to keep them clean, as they generally look after themselves by carbonising spills from cooking. Simply brush the dust away, when it is cool! On the cast-iron components which are plain, use a wire brush to scrub off more stubborn stains.

Baked-on Stains

If stains have become baked-on and extremely hard to remove by the simple brushing method, do not use oven cleaners. Instead simply use a damp sponge with warm soapy water – do not use too much water and try to clean spills up as soon as possible to ensure that your Aga does not become dirty.

Doors

Wipe the doors down regularly with damp soapy sponge; this will prevent food, spill and grease built up. The doors can even be lifted off so that you can clean them easily, however don’t get mixed up on where each door fits and don’t fully submerge the doors in water.

Spills

Acidic spills from fruit juice, stocks and milk should be wiped up immediately, as these types of stains can stain your Aga. The good news is that you don’t need to worry about over-boiling liquids that spill over the sides of pans, as if this happens the liquid will evaporate quickly.

The Rings

When cool the rings should be wiped down with a damp sponge; the insulation around the rings can be removed for more in depth cleaning. Do them one at a time so you don’t get confused as to where they originate.

When cleaning your Aga, do not use any abrasive cleaning substances, stick to gentle cleaners and simply soapy water, as this will usually do the trick! Clean regularly to prevent stain and dirt build up.
